4,000 Watch Hours, 8,000 Watch Hours… But What About Small Creators Like Me? Journal 0013

I have 350 subscribers. And lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to build a YouTube channel when you’re still small. Everywhere I look, there are videos about getting 4,000 watch hours, reaching 8,000 watch hours, getting monetized, beating the algorithm, increasing views and growing your subscribers. And I understand it. I want to grow too. But somewhere in all of this talk about YouTube growth, I started asking myself a different question: What happens to creators who are still building slowly? What happens to those of us who want to tell stories, have meaningful conversations, create from a genuine place and build something that actually sounds like us — without constantly chasing clout or whatever the algorithm wants today? Is there still room for meaningful content? In this journal, I’m sharing my honest thoughts about being a small creator, the pressure to grow, 4,000 and 8,000 watch hours, YouTube monetization, the fear of creating without knowing where it will lead, and what it means to keep showing up when only a few people are watching. I don't have all the answers. I'm still building. But maybe that's the point of this journal. Maybe one day I'll look back at this video and remember what it felt like to have 350 subscribers and still believe that the work mattered.
