After eight years living in Japan, why do I still choose to stay? A visit from my parents and a quiet day in Karuizawa reminded me of the everyday things I sometimes take for granted. In Episode 2 of A Day, a Thought, I reflect on life in Japan beyond the holiday: feeling safe as a father, being an outsider, having space to be myself, and realising this place no longer feels temporary. Japan has its problems—but leaving isn't the only answer. Sometimes you want to stay and help make things better. I'm Axel, an entrepreneur and father living in Japan. This video journal follows everyday life, family, building businesses, and the things I'm still figuring out—from Tokyo to quieter places like Karuizawa. What makes a place feel like home to you?
