I Am The Lord Who Heals You

“I Am the Lord Who Heals You” is a Bible-study hymn built around Exodus 15:26–27. Israel had just experienced bitter water at Marah. God called His people to listen to His voice, walk according to His instruction, and trust Him as their Healer. Immediately afterward Scripture records their arrival at Elim, with twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees. The song connects that passage with the wider biblical teaching that God cares for the whole person. Our bodies belong to God (1 Corinthians 6:19–20), and ordinary choices such as eating and drinking are to be made for His glory (1 Corinthians 10:31). This harmonizes strongly with the Adventist emphasis on temperance, healthful living, and stewardship of the body. Ellen G. White likewise emphasized that God's natural laws should be understood and obeyed, while consistently pointing to Christ as the true source of restoration. Her health writings particularly emphasize fresh air, sunlight, temperance, rest, exercise, proper diet, water, and trust in divine power. These principles are means of responsible stewardship—not a substitute for Christ and not a way of earning salvation. The hymn therefore does not teach a simplistic “obey and you will never become sick” theology. Its destination is Jesus. He healed during His earthly ministry, bore our sins at Calvary, and will ultimately eradicate sickness, suffering and death when God's work of restoration is complete.
