In this video, I simulate the impact, cracking, and fragmentation of a glass mug using Abaqus Explicit. This is Part 2 of the project. In Part 1, I used AI and CadQuery to generate a CAD model of the real glass mug from images and dimensions and import it into Abaqus. In this part, the glass fracture is modeled using the Abaqus brittle cracking model, the Hillerborg fracture-energy approach, and element deletion. I also discuss the maximum principal tensile stress used for crack initiation, fracture energy, shear retention, characteristic element length, mesh limitations, kinetic and internal energy, and the different trials performed during development of the model. A published research paper on structural glass fracture using element deletion in Explicit FEM was used as the main reference for the fracture-modeling approach. In the final section, I also test how AI can help generate an Abaqus input file and compare it with the manually developed model. Topics covered: Glass impact simulation in Abaqus Explicit Brittle cracking Hillerborg fracture-energy method Crack initiation and propagation Element deletion Glass fragmentation Shear retention Characteristic element length Mesh dependency and limitations Energy balance AI-generated CAD using CadQuery AI-generated Abaqus input files #Abaqus #BrittleCracking #FractureMechanics #GlassFracture #FEA #FiniteElementAnalysis #AbaqusExplicit #EngineeringSimulation #AIEngineering #CadQuery #Simulation #FEM #CAE #glassmug #glass
