Tawni Franklin - Her (1983) #BritFunk #SoulFunk #SophistiPop

Some betrayals don't deserve tears. Sometimes, the most powerful response is simply walking away. With her 1983 single "Her," Tawni Franklin delivers a sophisticated tale of infidelity, disappointment, and self-respect. Rather than fighting for a man who has already broken her trust, she makes one thing perfectly clear: the other woman can have him. Smooth, elegant, and quietly devastating, "Her" captures the distinctive atmosphere of early-'80s British soul, where heartbreak could sound just as irresistible as romance. Evoking the sophisticated soul of Sade, the infectious grooves of Imagination, the refined jazz-funk of Level 42, and the stylish sensibility of The Style Council, Tawni Franklin transforms romantic betrayal into a statement of independence. There's no begging, no competition, and no second chance. Just a woman who knows exactly what she's worth. "She can have the man she wanted / I don't want that man again." A forgotten gem from an imaginary 1983, brought to life by CoolTracks. 🎧 Turn it up, enjoy the groove, and let the music take you back to the golden age of British soul-funk. CoolTracks — Rediscovering the music that never was. HER Ooh... I know... I know all about her... You come home late, you wear that smile You think that I don't recognize The way you turn your face away When there's something you don't want to say You tell me everything's all right But you've been somewhere else tonight And I don't need another clue To know what's going on with you Don't tell me I'm imagining The things you've tried so hard to hide And don't pretend it's innocent When you can't even meet my eyes Let her have you Let her think she's won the prize She can have the sweet illusion I can see through all your lies Let her love you Let her take you by the hand She can have the man she wanted I don't want that man again I wonder what you told her first That you were lonely, things were worse? That I was cold, that we'd grown apart And she was there to heal your heart? Well, I could tell her quite a lot About the promises you forgot But she can learn it on her own The day she finds herself alone Don't tell me it was just a game Don't say you never meant to stay The truth is really very plain And I've got nothing left to say Let her have you Let her think she's won the prize She can have the sweet illusion I can see through all your lies Let her love you Let her take you by the hand She can have the man she wanted I don't want that man again Let her have you... (Let her have you) I don't need you... (Don't need you now) Let her have you... (Let her have you) I don't want that man again... You thought I'd cry You thought I'd stay You thought I'd beg For yesterday But love's not something You can divide And I won't stand On either side Let Her have you Let her think she's won the prize She can have the sweet illusion I can see through all your lies Let her love you Let her take you by the hand She can have the man she wanted I don't want that man again Let her have you... (Ooh, let her have you) I don't want that man again... Let her have you... (She can have you) Not again... Not again...
