The Madlanga Commission is back on 9 November. Before the hearings resume, we look back at ten people whose careers have already been shaken by what it uncovered. Episode 1: Sergeant Fannie Nkosi. He was a sergeant in the Gauteng Organised Crime Unit. But the commission heard that his reach went far beyond his rank. He admitted arranging meetings between Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya and Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala. He was questioned about impala for Sibiya and a R25 000 payment for a motorbike escort. Co-commissioner Sesi Baloyi warned him that he was not helping the commission. Then came the raid on his Pretoria North home, where investigators say they found case dockets, R50 000 under a mattress and a hand grenade. He was arrested, denied bail, and now faces 13 charges across Gauteng and Limpopo. Everyone named in this series is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Fannie Nkosi has not been convicted of any crime. Next on Fallout: Episode 2, The Sweat, about former EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi. Tuesday at 09:00.
