Daily Mass Readings and Gospel Reflection for Monday, October 19, 2026 | Monday of the Twenty-Ninth Week in Ordinary Time.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the rich fool, who builds larger barns to store his abundant harvest but forgets that life itself cannot be secured by possessions. This reflection invites us to understand that wealth is not evil in itself, but becomes spiritually dangerous when it replaces God as the foundation of our security and closes our hearts to others. In the light of Saint Paul’s teaching in Ephesians, we discover a profound contrast: the rich man trusts in material abundance, while God is rich in mercy and gives us new life through Christ. Salvation is a gift of grace, not something we can purchase through wealth or good works. Renewed by that grace, we are called to live with gratitude, responsible stewardship, generosity, and charity, becoming truly rich in what matters to God.
