Prof. Dr. Marcello Barbosa Silva Neto Instituto de Física da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (IF/UFRJ) CVLattes: http://lattes.cnpq.br/6171438895904360 Resumo: How does the geometry of electronic wavefunctions shape electrical transport? In this seminar, I present experimental and theoretical results revealing a giant reduction in the electrical resistance of tellurene under an applied magnetic field. At cryogenic temperatures, the resistance decreases by up to 90%, with the effect persisting in magnetic fields reaching 35 T. Electrostatic gating controls its magnitude, revealing a strong enhancement near a conduction-band Weyl node. To explain these observations, we propose a mechanism combining quantum-geometric enhancement of electron diffusion with a magnetoelectric interaction that couples electron spin to its guiding-center drift. The quantum metric, which describes how electronic wavefunctions change across momentum space, plays a central role in this response. These findings reveal how quantum geometry can govern charge transport and introduce a memory effect rooted in the structure of electronic wavefunctions.
