Victory to you, O one whose eyes are like lotus petals. Victory to you, beloved of Shripati, Lord Vishnu. Victory, O Mother Mahalakshmi, who ferries living beings across the ocean of worldly life.
O Mahalakshmi I bow to you. I bow to you, O queen of the gods. O beloved of Hari I bow to you. I bow to you, O treasure house of compassion.
O dweller in the lotus I bow to you always. For the good of all beings, keep showering the rain of wealth.
O mother of the world I bow to you, O ocean of mercy. O compassionate one, O sovereign of the universe, salutations to you.
Salutations, daughter of the milk ocean. Salutations, bearer of the three worlds. O showerer of riches, protect me. I have come to your refuge.
Protect me, O goddess of the gods, dear to the God of gods. Save me from poverty, O Lakshmi. Place your kindness upon me.
Salutations, mother of the three worlds. Salutations, purifier of the three worlds. Brahma and the other gods bow to you, O giver of joy to the whole world.
O beloved of Vishnu I bow to you, O one who works for the good of the world. O destroyer of the pain of the suffering, grant me prosperity always.
O lotus dweller I bow to you. Salutations to Capala, the swift one. Salutations to Chanchala, the moving one. Salutations to Lalita, the graceful one. Even her restlessness is praised here, because fortune moves, and the devotee asks her to move toward the home.
Salutations to you, mother of Pradyumna. O Mother I bow again and again. Protect me. I have taken refuge in you.
O worthy of shelter, I have surrendered to you, O Kamala who lives in the lotus. Save me, save me, O Mahalakshmi, whose whole work is protection.
Scholarship does not shine. Virtues do not shine in a person. Good character itself does not shine, O Mahalakshmi, without you.
Beauty shines, conduct shines, and the virtues of people shine only for as long as Lakshmi is gracious.
Those whom you adorn, O Lakshmi, are freed from sins and honoured even in the world of kings. The virtueless become virtuous. Those of poor conduct become foremost among the well conducted.
Lakshmi adorns beauty. Lakshmi adorns the family line. Lakshmi adorns learning. And Lakshmi herself is greater than all of these.
O Lakshmi, Brahma wearies his tongue in the praise of your qualities. Rudra and the rest, the Sun, the Moon and the lord of the gods cannot finish speaking of you. How then can we describe your form, your marks and your virtues. O Mother of the universe, protect me and surely fulfil my wish.
I have come to your side, wretched, pained, afraid, burned by the heat of the world and without wealth. Because you are an ocean of compassion, O Lakshmi, quickly by the gift of wealth make me a lord of riches.
Look at me, O Mother, beloved of Hari. I have come near you penniless. Give me at once, O Lakshmi, into my very hand wondrous cloth, gold and excellent food.
You alone are mother, O Lakshmi. You alone are father. You are brother. You are friend. You alone are knowledge.
Save me, save me, O Mahalakshmi. Save me, save me, O queen of the gods. Save me, save me, O mother of the world. Save me from poverty at once.
Salutations to you, supporter of the world. Salutations again and again. Salutations, O foundation of dharma. Salutations, O giver of prosperity.
I am sunk in the ocean of poverty. I have gone down as far as the netherworld. I am drowning. Take me by the hand, O Rama, and lift me up quickly.
O Lakshmi, what is the use of many words said again and again. I have no other refuge. This is the truth, the truth, O beloved of Hari.
Hearing this speech of Agastya, the beloved of Hari was delighted and spoke in a sweet voice. I am always pleased with you.
Lakshmi said. The person who recites this stotra spoken by you, and the one who hears it, that greatly blessed one will find me remaining at their service.
Whoever recites this daily with devotion, their Alakshmi is destroyed. Fierce debt is destroyed. They do not see separation from what they love.
Whoever recites this after rising at dawn, filled with faith and devotion, I shall always remain in that house, constantly, together with the Lord of Shri.
That person becomes blessed with happiness and good fortune, noble minded, intelligent, blessed with children, full of virtue, excellent, and able to enjoy the rightful joys of life.
This stotra is of great merit. It was proclaimed by Lakshmi and Agastya. It gives birth to the grace of Vishnu and grants the fruits of the four aims of life.
There is victory at the royal gate and defeat of enemies. There is no fear of ghosts, spirits, goblins or tigers.
Fear does not arise from weapons, fire or flood. This hymn greatly breaks the harm of the wicked and of sins.
Even if recited with a collected mind in a stable, an elephant house or a cowshed, it calms the faults of that place and destroys great sins.
It creates every happiness for human beings and gives long life and health.
