Freed After 41 Years: The Truth About the Douglas Carter Case

Douglas Stewart Carter spent roughly 41 years in custody for Eva Olesen's 1985 murder in Provo, Utah. Much of that time was spent under a death sentence. On September 28, 2026, he left jail on bail after new DNA results excluded him from blood on a doorknob and material from the knife handle. But the DNA was not what first overturned his conviction.
