DJ Hidden - The Surface (Official Audio)

“The Surface was the flipside to Ghost Story back in the day. It was the kind of record I tried to create by fusing hard drum & bass with IDM and hardcore breakbeat. Setting the mood during its long intro was always essential. The drop doesn’t occur until 3:43 — but that build-up is crucial to its impact, and it also points toward a direction I would explore further on The Later After and subsequent releases. A small inside joke lies in the misheard lyrics. If you don’t pay attention, the girl might as well be saying, ‘I have never seen the circus,’ which completely twists the song’s meaning — yet somehow still creates its own dark context.” DJ Hidden The Surface has been remastered and is now available on Re:percussions Part II.
