Commonwealth Games 2026: Preview with Gareth Murray

In this episode of the Scottish Basketball Podcast, I chat to Gareth Murray to look ahead to the men's 3x3 competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Nearly two years of planning come to a head this month as Gareth leads a Scotland men's 3x3 team onto home soil. It is Gareth's fourth Commonwealth Games with Scotland, having represented his country as a player three times before stepping into the head coach role for this campaign. We hear how the squad came together, the challenge of adapting players fresh out of a 5x5 season to the physicality, speed and tactical demands of the modern 3x3 game. Preparations have taken the squad to a training camp in Serbia, where they trained alongside players and coaches deeply embedded in the world tour circuit. Gareth talks through the group Scotland have been drawn into, including familiar opposition in New Zealand and Australia, the unknowns in the Cayman Islands, Nigeria and Guyana, and his belief that this squad can compete for a medal. Gareth speaks about what it means to represent Scotland at home and the fighting spirit he wants his players to show throughout the tournament.
