If your heels ache for the first ten minutes every morning, somebody has probably told you it's your age. Sometimes it is. A lot of the time it's the pair you bought because the box said comfort. I'm Harold Becker. I fitted shoes in our family store in Cleveland for forty-two years. In this video I go through fifteen shoe brands that charge you for comfort the shoe was never built to give, from the house brands at Walmart, Target and Amazon to Skechers and Gravity Defyer, and the five brands I'd still hand you across the counter: Hoka, Brooks, Vionic, Dansko and New Balance. A few things you will hear: in May 2012 Skechers agreed to pay forty million dollars to settle FTC charges over its Shape-ups toning shoe ads. In February 2025 Gravity Defyer and its owner agreed to a court order barring pain relief claims without real scientific evidence.
