Step into the storybook heart of the English countryside with this immersive POV walking tour through the Cotswolds, exploring the beautiful villages of Bibury and Bourton-on-the-Water in Gloucestershire. 🇬🇧🌿 Our walk takes us through the honey-coloured streets of Bibury, along the peaceful River Coln, and to the historic St Mary’s Church — a remarkable Grade I listed building with origins reaching back to the medieval period. The church contains layers of history from Saxon, Norman, Gothic and later periods. But Bibury hides more than its famous postcard views. The village has evidence of human settlement going back more than 2,500 years, while its medieval prosperity was closely connected with the Cotswolds wool trade. Even the name Rack Isle recalls the days when woven cloth was hung on racks to dry beside the river. We then continue to Bourton-on-the-Water, famously known as the “Venice of the Cotswolds”, where the shallow River Windrush flows directly through the village beneath its beautiful low stone bridges. And here comes the curious part… Bourton’s history goes back much further than its charming tea rooms and tourist shops suggest. The area has evidence of Iron Age and Roman settlement, with the nearby Fosse Way helping connect the region during Roman times. Look closely and you may also notice something wonderfully unusual: Bourton has a 1:9 scale miniature version of the village itself.
