With the Terran and Zerg campaigns complete, it's time to experience the final side of the original StarCraft: Remastered story as we begin the Protoss campaign with Mission 1 – First Strike.
After spending the last ten missions commanding the Zerg Swarm, we're now switching sides and seeing the invasion of Aiur from the perspective of the Protoss themselves.
And things aren't exactly going well.
The Overmind and the Zerg Swarm have reached Aiur, bringing the war directly to the Protoss homeworld. What started as a mysterious Zerg infestation on distant Terran colonies has now become a full-scale invasion of one of the most important worlds in the Koprulu Sector.
In First Strike, we're introduced properly to the Protoss faction and tasked with establishing our forces before striking back against the Zerg.
Just like Boot Camp introduced us to the Terrans and Among the Ruins introduced us to the Zerg, this opening mission gives us a chance to get familiar with how the Protoss work. Their powerful units, shields, Pylons and approach to base building feel very different from both factions we've played so far.
After getting used to producing huge numbers of Zerg units, controlling the Protoss is definitely going to require a change of approach.
Story-wise, we're joining the conflict at a really interesting point.
During the Zerg campaign, we watched the Overmind discover the location of Aiur after Zeratul killed the Cerebrate Zasz. That brief connection between Zeratul and the Overmind gave the Zerg exactly what they needed to find the Protoss homeworld.
We then helped the Swarm invade it.
Now we have to deal with the consequences.
The Protoss are fighting to defend their own world, but the Zerg aren't the only problem they'll have to face. There are also divisions within Protoss society itself, particularly between the ruling Conclave and those who believe the traditional ways of fighting the Zerg aren't working.
This campaign should finally give us the chance to learn much more about characters like Tassadar and Zeratul, while seeing the war from the perspective of the race we've mostly encountered as mysterious outsiders until now.
One of the things I've enjoyed most about StarCraft so far is how each campaign continues the same story rather than feeling completely separate. We saw the Zerg invasion from the Terran perspective, then helped make it happen while playing as the Zerg, and now we're standing on the other side trying to stop the Swarm we just helped bring to Aiur.
This video marks the beginning of my full StarCraft: Remastered Protoss campaign playthrough, where I'll be playing through every mission and following the story through to the end of the original StarCraft campaign.
We've played as the Terrans.
We've commanded the Zerg Swarm.
Now it's time for the Protoss.
