We continue the Protoss campaign in StarCraft: Remastered with Mission 2 – Into the Flame, as the battle for Aiur continues and we start to learn more about how the Protoss intend to fight back against the Zerg invasion. After getting our first proper introduction to the Protoss in First Strike, we're beginning to see the situation from their side. The Zerg Swarm has invaded Aiur, the Overmind has established itself on the Protoss homeworld, and the Protoss now face a threat unlike anything they've dealt with before. In Into the Flame, we're sent to destroy one of the Zerg's most important commanders — a Cerebrate controlling part of the Swarm. There's just one problem. We've already seen during the Zerg campaign that Cerebrates aren't easy to kill permanently. In this playthrough, we establish our Protoss forces, build up an army and fight our way through the Zerg positions before launching an attack on the Cerebrate. It's another chance to get used to the Protoss after spending the previous campaigns playing as the Terrans and Zerg. I'm still adjusting to how differently the Protoss play. Their units are expensive but incredibly powerful, while Psionic Shields and Pylon-powered structures make managing a Protoss base feel completely different from spreading Creep with the Zerg or constructing Terran buildings. Story-wise, Into the Flame is where things start getting particularly interesting. The Protoss leadership believes that destroying the Cerebrate will deal a serious blow to the Swarm, but Tassadar has already learned something the Conclave doesn't fully understand. During his time away from Aiur, Tassadar encountered Zeratul and the Dark Templar, whose unusual psionic powers are capable of permanently killing Cerebrates. We've already seen exactly how important that ability is after Zeratul destroyed Zasz during the Zerg campaign. The Protoss on Aiur, however, don't all share Tassadar's willingness to work with the Dark Templar. That creates an interesting situation. The Protoss are fighting for the survival of their homeworld, but their own traditions and internal divisions could make defeating the Zerg even more difficult. One of the things I'm enjoying about the Protoss campaign is seeing familiar events from yet another perspective. We spent the previous campaign serving the Overmind and helping the Zerg invade Aiur. Now we're defending the same world against the Swarm we helped build. It gives the whole StarCraft story a nice sense of continuity. This video is part of my full StarCraft: Remastered Protoss campaign playthrough, where I'm playing through every mission and following the story through to the end of the original StarCraft campaign. The Zerg are spreading across Aiur. The Protoss are fighting back. But destroying the Swarm might require them to question some very old beliefs first. 👉 If you're enjoying the playthrough, consider subscribing as we continue through the StarCraft: Remastered Protoss campaign. 💬 Let me know in the comments: Which Protoss character is your favourite — Tassadar, Zeratul, Fenix or someone else?
