Journey 01 Day 06 — Deqen to Markam | Entering Tibet

Day 6 marks one of the biggest milestones of the journey — crossing from Yunnan into Tibet. Leaving Deqen behind, we continued north along increasingly dramatic mountain roads, following the valleys towards Markam (芒康, Mángkāng). The landscape began to change as we climbed deeper into the Tibetan Plateau — towering mountains, deep river valleys and long stretches of the G318 ahead. More than just another day of riding, today felt like crossing a threshold. After days of gradually gaining altitude from Kunming, we had finally entered Tibet. The roads became bigger, the mountains higher, and the journey suddenly felt very real.
