He Waited 40 Years to Retire. Now He Sits in This Chair.

Gary waited 40 years to retire. Now his daily commute is from the bedroom to the kitchen table, from the kitchen table to his easy chair, and eventually back to the bedroom. He’s kind of like a migrating bird. He just doesn’t migrate very far. Gary has money. He has time. He has freedom. Nobody is telling him where to go or what to do anymore. And if he wants to spend six or seven hours a day sitting in his easy chair, watching television and eating potato chips, he’s certainly earned the right to do it. But I still have a question: Is this really what we work 40 years to retire for? Somewhere between the easy chair and a 900-mile bicycle ride through Europe, there has to be a retirement that makes sense to me. What does retirement look like for you?
