I Was Never More Alone Than When I Was Married

The loneliest I’ve ever been in my life wasn’t when I was living in my pickup truck. It wasn’t eating alone, traveling alone, or sitting beside the river with nobody around. It was lying beside someone and still feeling completely alone. For years I thought loneliness meant not having people around you. I don’t believe that anymore. There’s a big difference between being alone and feeling unseen, unheard, or unable to be yourself around the people closest to you.
