Baoyuan Road stretches about 579 meters from Baohua Road in the east to Longjin West Road in the west. It was expanded from the Qing Dynasty's Baoyuan Street in 1932. This street has one of the densest concentrations of historic buildings in Guangzhou and, together with Baohua Road and Duobao Road, is known as one of the "Three Treasures of Xiguan". 🏛️ "One Baoyuan Road, Half of Xiguan's History" In the late Qing and early Republican periods, merchants who made their fortunes through the Thirteen Factories came here to build their homes. What makes this street special is the coexistence of traditional Xiguan mansions, row houses, and grand Western-style villas—a fusion of Chinese and Western architecture found throughout the area. Architectural Highlights Mingqindi (No. 141): Traditional Xiguan sliding lattice doors paired with a Baroque-style second floor featuring Roman columns and ornate carvings—a masterpiece of East-meets-West design No. 101 Baoyuan Road: A Republican-era mansion built around 1910, blending European-style facades with traditional Manchurian windows Former Residence of Chen Zeqiu (No. 9): Home of the "Cotton Yarn King"—his daughter's dowry reportedly stretched half a mile when she married 🚶 Baoyuan Road Today—Old Street, New Life Today, Baoyuan Road is not just about historic architecture—it's also home to a growing number of trendy new shops: cafes, B&Bs, vintage barbershops, and artisanal bakeries.
