Severn Valley Railway | Autumn Steam Gala | 18th & 20th of September 2026

The Severn Valley Railway hosted their annual "Autumn Steam Gala" over the 17th-20th of September 2026, offering the usual mix of full length and local passenger diagrams complemented by the line's authentic GWR goods train, along with a range of double headed workings involving the smaller engines. This year's event featured four visiting locomotives alongside the SVR's resident fleet, with the gala originally themed around the pre-preservation days of the Severn Valley branch. However, unforeseen circumstances led to the cancellation of two planned guest locos (GWR Small Prairie No. 5526 and BR Standard 4MT Tank No. 80097), though the SVR thankfully managed to secure a pair of substitutes (GWR 2884 No. 3850 and 46115 'Scots Guardsman') at relatively short notice. The event also marked the long awaited return to steam of GWR 'Large Prairie' No. 4150, with the 1947-built 2-6-2T making its preservation debut after a lengthy restoration from scrapyard condition - thus hauling its first official services in over 60 years! This video features footage taken during the Friday and Sunday of the gala, filmed from a variety of lineside positions and featuring an impressive selection of locos and stock, with some cracking displays of noise and exhaust on show throughout. Personal highlights include 3850 charging up Eardington Bank with the GWR goods train, along with 46115 accelerating over Bridge No. 12 on a northbound service - special mentions also go to 13268 and 75069, which both put in some fantastic performances on locals! The crowning glory was, without doubt, 41313 & 9681 storming the 1 in 100 Highley Bank on a 'LCGB Special' recreation - absolutely brilliant to witness!
