Floating Shelf / Charging Station from a Pallet

Thanks to Sterling Davis' 2015 Pallet Upcycle Challenge, I've been having fun working with reclaimed pallet wood. This has been a project on my to-do list for a long time. My various device chargers have been sitting in a tangled mess in the corner of my office for far too long. I didn't want to take up valuable desk/counter space with a traditional charging station, so I decided to move up onto the wall with a floating shelf design hung on a french cleat. The design was my own creation, with influences from Bob Clagett (I Like To Make Stuff) and Steve Ramsey (Woodworking for Mere Mortals). The pallet itself came from a free posting on Craigslist. I knew it would be big but I had no idea it would be so heavy-duty, with all the boards being almost an inch thick. Since I don't have the proper tools for milling these rough boards down smooth and square, I decided to embrace the "rustic" look. Since the wood was free, I also didn't mind experimenting with new designs and finishes. Thus far it's been a useful addition to my home office. Now that I've had some practice building this one, I might try making one a bit bigger and better in the future.
