We live in a culture that treats self-expression as the highest good. Be authentic. Follow your desires. Define your own purpose. It sounds like freedom. But this message traces that idea all the way back to its origin, and what we find there is sobering. In Genesis 3, the serpent didn't deny that God existed or that He created the tree. He simply asked, "Did God really say?" That subtle question planted the seed of something that has been growing ever since: the idea that we have the right to repurpose what God made according to our own desires rather than His design. Self-expression, when it overrides the will of our Creator, isn't liberation. It's the pattern of the fall. But this message doesn't stop at the diagnosis. It also addresses a second lie that often hits people in the opposite direction: the belief that personal weakness disqualifies us from serving God. Moses felt it at the burning bush. Paul wrestled with it in his own ministry. And God's answer in both cases was the same: My power is made perfect in weakness. Drawing from Luke 9:23, Genesis 3, and Psalm 37, this sermon calls us to a life of daily self-denial and cross-bearing, not as a burden to carry reluctantly, but as the path that leads to something far better than anything self-expression could ever deliver. A life repurposed for holiness, meaning, and genuine joy. Fix your eyes on Jesus, who created the very instrument of His own death and walked toward it willingly, for the joy set before Him. That is the ultimate model of what it means to die to self. 🌐 Website: www.fairfieldbaptist.com 📺 Watch more sermons: fairfieldbaptist.com/sermons 📱 Follow us on Facebook: @fairfieldbaptistcypress 📸 Follow us on Instagram: @fairfieldbaptistcypress
