Nick's sleeve was 90% finished. Filling the last gaps took us two nights at Seven Tattoo Studio in Las Vegas, the second ending near 2 a.m.
How do you fill gaps in a tattoo sleeve so it looks natural? In black and grey realism, you design the filler last, around what is already there. Our last Design Day was the hardest one: what ties it all together and makes it flow. Cathedral windows frame it, hair carries across the arm, a misty fade closes the wrist, and feathers tuck away when the arm drops. Soft parts get no hard outline, so the new work blends in.
Nick builds custom homes for a living. This video is the finish work on his sleeve.
These were his last two tattoo sessions, Oct 1 and Oct 9. The elbow and hourglass from August had healed enough to tattoo beside. At two weeks I'd call it iffy. The second night, the wing went on the shoulder with the last stencil on the arm, and the sleeve was done.
The next day Nick texted me: "My total time at shop was 124 hours. 66 hours were tattooing." The other 58 went to four Design Days, setup, and lunches together in the studio.
I asked Nick how the shoulder felt. "It's definitely not the worst out of the whole sleeve for sure." He says the elbow area was worse.
Also answered on camera:
Why shave before a tattoo? Hair follicles can carry bacteria, and tattooing over hair can push it into the skin.
Black and grey vs color? With black and grey, we break the ink down with water so it turns translucent. Color is more opaque.
How do you test a tone without committing? Roll a paper towel into a cone, dip it in ink and brush it over the skin.
Curls or a clean edge on the hair? After the first night, I asked you on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. You voted curls.

I've tattooed since 2007. Seven Tattoo Studio opened in Las Vegas in 2012 for large-scale black and grey realism.

Thinking about a sleeve of your own?
Before you commit, we map it out first. Placement, flow, full direction. You have to be completely on board before I pick up the machine.
Submit your idea and the team will review it. If it is a fit, we set up a Vision Call, a short video call where I confirm the direction.
