Update 1.49 just released a few days ago, the biggest update to the game since last November's Spec II update. Adding 6 new cars and the return of the Eiger Nordwand circuit from GT5 & GT6. Although sadly all the off road variants are still absent. And most importantly, the part that pretty much has split the GT community right down the middle, is the physics overhaul. Excluding the amusing, broken aspect of it with certain cars going berserk with certain settings, as I showed in my last video, which we know Polyphony will patch soon. From what I've been seeing from other people, the overall verdict from the GT community about the physics change has been mostly negative. Myself included but not for the same reason as part of the physics update has involved Polyphony overriding certain settings on a good number of cars like dampers, spring rates, and downforce settings. Forcing me to check over & rework all of my SSRX top speed tunes for my now 407 car garage yet again, as I had just done this several months ago tweaking the gears for top speed without any kind of tailwind. It took me over a month to get that all done last time. Obviously I don’t approve of Polyphony just changing my settings on my top speed tunes, that I’ve spent so much time perfecting, without my consent. Polyphony have changed the game’s physics several times now since it initially launched and each time, with the exception of the March 2023 update, I was not a fan of it. Mainly for the above reason.
Top speed wise, Polyphony have made numerous cars faster than before while others have noticeably slowed down. For instance the iconic Toyota GT-ONE Race Car, which was already much slower in GT7 than the speed titan it was in GT games in the past, is now another 10 MPH slower down to a pitiful 226. While on the flip side all the Tomahawks, excluding the group 1 variant, have been made much faster with the X model going from 402 to 418 without any kind of tailwind, with DRS engaged of course. This being the reason I'm reusing them again here in this race along with other cars like the Peugeot 908 and Porsche 919 Hybrid Le Mans cars. And these aren't the only cars I've driven with major pickups in top speed, and I still have many more cars in my garage to go through. Of course 5 of the 6 new cars in the update are here like the '97 BMW M3, Lamborghini Gallardo, RUF RGT 4.2, Ferrari 430 Scuderia, and the legendary '98 Subaru Impreza Rally Car. And 9 cars with newly added engine swaps featured here, most of them centered around BMW's including the new '97 BMW M3. And then 2 cars with major livery overhauls to complete the lineup and bring you episode 45 of our half-hour speed wars. This time it's a nice, clear midnight run. And when darkness falls, chaos is always bound to ensue as this race sure had plenty of it.
