Alberta announces $384 million for skill workforce training – May 11, 2026

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announces $384 million in funding for the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) to establish an advanced skills centre, which aims to create 5,500 more apprentice training spaces and strengthen Alberta’s skilled workforce. She is joined at the news conference in Edmonton by provincial ministers Myles McDougall (advanced education) and Searle Turton (children and family services), Laura Jo Gunter (president and CEO, NAIT), Yasmin Jivraj (former board chair, NAIT), and Tim Cartmell (associate vice-president of major capital projects, NAIT).
