LIVE: No country for funny men? Comedian who mimicked Modi at Rahul event faces backlash

Three shows by comedian Pulkit Mani in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh were cancelled after he mimicked Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s event in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. Mani said on social media that his show in Noida were cancelled due to “unforeseen circumstances”. Hours later, he said his events in Kanpur and Lucknow were also cancelled due to “repeated threats from goon activists”. Why were Pulkit Mani’s shows cancelled? Should Rahul Gandhi have endorsed Pulkit’s mimicry? Is Pulkit’s Modi act more about politics or comedy? 00:00 – Opening context 06:48 – Comedy versus politics 16:06 – Role of opposition 23:14 – Threat to artists 29:18 – Support for creators 31:39 – Controlling public laughter #pulkitmani #narendramodi #rahulgandhi #modimimicry #comedian #standupcomedy #uttarpradesh #noida #kanpur #lucknow #politics #politicalsatire #thefederal --- ▶For the latest news and analysis - https://thefederal.com/  ▶RSS Feed - https://thefederal.com/google_feeds.xml ▶For more explainers, and interesting videos - https://thefederal.com/category/videos ▶To watch The Federal's shows listed together for your easy access, click here:    • The Federal Programmes   Follow The Federal News here - ▶Website: https://thefederal.com/ ▶Facebook:   / thefederal.india   ▶X: https://x.com/TheFederal_News ▶Instagram:   / thefederal_india   ▶LinkedIn:   / thefederal   ▶Whatsapp channel: https://www.whatsapp.com/channel/0029... ▶Threads: TheFederal India (@thefederal_india) ▶Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3fy3utP... #TheFederal #India #BreakingNews #LatestNews #News #Delhi #Mumbai #Parliament #NarendraModi #RahulGandhi #Politics #Business #Economy Download The Federal App here - ▶Android - http://bit.ly/3DJSkiu ▶iPhone - http://bit.ly/TheFederalios
