The center of the Milky Way is about 26,000 light-years from Earth. How long would a Star Trek starship need to get there at every warp speed? This video runs that single journey through the Star Trek franchise's official TNG-era warp scale, from Warp 1 all the way to Warp 9.99. The answer starts at 26,000 years and drops to just over 3 years at the top of the scale. We also check where Voyager's own travel estimate from "Caretaker" would land on this trip, and why the ships that can reach the highest warp speeds can't hold them. Then we look at Warp 10 in "Threshold," and the one thing in Star Trek that makes this whole chart look small: the Bajoran wormhole from Deep Space Nine. A note on the numbers: the warp figures come from official franchise references, the TNG Technical Manual and the Star Trek Encyclopedia, not from lines spoken in an episode. The 26,000 light-year distance is the real-world distance to the galactic center, used here as a destination. If you were the captain, which warp speed would you commit to for this trip?
