In 1937, Pablo Picasso created one of the most powerful anti-war paintings in history. But Guernica is more than a painting about a bombing. In this video, we follow the story behind Picasso's Guernica — from the bombing of the Basque town in 1937 to the strange symbols hidden throughout the painting. Why is the horse screaming? What does the bull mean? Why does Picasso refuse to explain the painting? And why does that strange lightbulb look almost like an eye? Some interpretations are widely accepted. Others remain debated. And some details may reveal a much more personal side of Picasso's work. Nearly nine decades later, Guernica still forces us to look at war, suffering, politics, and grief in a completely different way. What do YOU think the horse represents? Tell me in the comments.
