6 Minutes Ago: Vera Rubin’S First Images Just Stopped The World! The Vera C. Rubin Observatory is now beginning its historic 10-year Legacy Survey of Space and Time, repeatedly scanning the southern sky to build one of the most detailed time-lapse records of the Universe ever attempted. Rubin’s enormous LSST Camera has already produced spectacular imagery. Its July 31, 2026 science image and catalog release featured hundreds of thousands of distant galaxies in and around the famous COSMOS field, giving astronomers an unusually deep view of the Universe. In this video, we explore what Vera Rubin is seeing, why its massive camera and extremely wide field of view are so important, and how the observatory could transform research into galaxies, asteroids, dark matter, dark energy, and objects that suddenly change in brightness or position. The cosmic survey has only just begun—and scientists expect an enormous number of discoveries as Rubin continues watching the changing sky. #VeraRubin #RubinObservatory #LSST #Astronomy #Space #Universe
