Eshpai was a Mari - they are a Finno-Ugric ethnic group, who have traditionally lived along the Volga and Kama rivers in Russia. Almost half of Maris today live in the Mari El republic, with significant populations in the Bashkortostan and Tatarstan republics. The Mari have their own language, also called Mari, which is a member of the Uralic language family. It is written with a modified version of the Cyrillic alphabet. Linguists today distinguish four different dialects, which are not all mutually intelligible. More info on wikipedia.. A little incertainty I had in piece 13, where the dot in the left hand was missing sometimes, so I didn't know if the measure is 4 or 5 quarters long. Anyways, although it was probably wrong it seems like it doesn't make super a difference, since everything is rather cantabile and free in form. This is following the request for more Eshpai and a nice suggestion in the comments. in fact, more eshpai will come since his music is wonderfully down to earth and creative (it's art to make something interesting with little means and not clusters and "fffff" markings all the time!) I think the beginning says that "officially" the theme in 1. gets varied in the subsequent pieces. https://www.paypal.me/gamma1734
