It took me a Year to Restore these 150-Year-Old Stairs

We thought restoring these stairs would take a week or two. It took about a year. To be fair, these stairs are over 150 years old and came with carpet, layers of paint, lead paint underneath, approximately a billion tiny nails, dents, mysterious old repairs, white filler and all the evidence of a very long and busy life. This wasn't a perfect restoration and I didn't want to erase every sign of age anyway. The goal was to uncover the original wooden staircase, repair what needed repairing and make all those imperfections a little quieter. There was lead-paint stripping, an unreasonable amount of sanding, filling, staining, hardwax oil, several interruptions and, eventually, some strategic colouring-in with wood markers. A huge thank you to my friends, I genuinely couldn't have done this project without them. And after all that...
