Experience the complete Indian Beach Trail in stunning 4K as we hike through the lush coastal forests and dramatic shoreline of Ecola State Park on the Oregon Coast. Read my full Indian Beach Trail hiking guide here: https://happywanders.com/indian-beach... 0:00 Introduction 0:10 Starting on Indian Beach Trail 17:27 Spotted an Elk 29:40 First View of Indian Beach 31:18 Great View of Indian Beach 39:10 Arriving at Indian Beach 40:00 Walking on Indian Beach This scenic trail leads to beautiful Indian Beach, with towering evergreen forests, rocky cliffs, Pacific Ocean views, and a special connection to the classic movie The Goonies, which was filmed in and around Astoria and the northern Oregon Coast. This full hike covers approximately 6.1 miles (9.8 km) round trip based on my actual route, although AllTrails lists the trail at around 4 miles. I completed the hike in just under 2 hours, moving at a fairly quick pace, while most hikers should expect around 2.5–3 hours. I also walked back along the road rather than retracing the trail, which contributed to the additional distance and elevation. Based on my route, I climbed approximately 1,089 feet (332 m) of elevation. The trail winds primarily through dense coastal forest before gradually revealing spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and Indian Beach. One of the highlights of my hike was spotting a large elk in the woods. Eventually, the forest opens up to the beautiful shoreline of Indian Beach, where you can watch surfers, explore the coast, and look for tide pools during low tide. Note: The first few minutes of this hike were cut off (video stopped recording), but it was just climbing up elevation in the woods. 🎬 The Goonies connection is one of the things that makes this hike especially memorable. Ecola State Park was used as a filming location for The Goonies, and the area around Ecola Point and Indian Beach features some of the iconic landscapes associated with the movie. 📍 Location: Indian Beach Trail – Ecola State Park, Oregon Coast, Oregon 🥾 Trail Information: • Distance: 6.1 miles (9.8 km) based on my actual route • AllTrails Distance: Approximately 4 miles • Time: Just under 2 hours for my hike; allow 2.5–3 hours at an average pace • Elevation Gain: Approximately 1,089 feet (332 m) based on my route • Difficulty: Moderate (6/10) • Parking: Ecola State Park day-use parking permit required • Parking Cost: $10 Oregon residents / $12 out-of-state visitors (2026) • Dogs: Yes, generally on a leash no longer than 6 feet • Best Time to Visit: Summer through early fall • Restrooms: Available near the trailhead and parking area 🌲 Highlights: • Complete Indian Beach Trail hike in 4K • Indian Beach and Pacific Ocean views • The Goonies filming locations • Lush Oregon Coast forest • Dramatic coastal cliffs and scenery • Tide pools at Indian Beach • Surfers along the Oregon Coast • Elk spotted during the hike • Raw hiking footage with natural sounds One thing that surprised me about this hike is how much of the route is actually through the woods. I expected more continuous coastal views, but the forest sections make up a significant portion of the trail. The payoff comes when you reach Indian Beach, which is a beautiful and rewarding destination. If you're planning an Oregon Coast road trip or Goonies-themed road trip, Indian Beach and Ecola State Park are well worth adding to your itinerary. You can also drive directly to Indian Beach if you'd rather skip the hike. The Oregon Coast can be unpredictable, so bring appropriate footwear and be prepared for rain, wind, and changing conditions. If you're exploring Indian Beach or the tide pools, check the tide schedule beforehand and use caution around the ocean.
