Three Mile Island Unit 1 — now the Christopher M. Crane Clean Energy Center — is having its return to service processed; the regulator says the project seeks to return more than 800 megawatts to the grid. This episode stays inside a single document: the nuclear regulator's own facility page for the plant, read on 7 October 2026. That one page says all of the following at once. The restart is real and moving: the final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact were issued on 18 September 2026, and Amendment 307 of 1 July 2026 allows receipt and possession of new nuclear fuel. Four licensing actions needed to authorise power operations remain open, with "Final Documentation" and "Estimated Completion" blank. The licence status is SAFSTOR. The decommissioning section's "Estimated Date for Closure" reads: calendar year 2079. And the life-cycle category for a plant in this position — "Operating with Intent to Decommission" — reads: "No information exists at this present time." We do not say the restart will fail. The documents say the opposite is being prepared for: Constellation notified the regulator in October 2024 that it intends to apply for a second licence renewal in the first quarter of 2029. At the end, the episode explains how a summary of this same page nearly put a false contradiction into it. Sources, public: NRC facility page for the Christopher M.
