President Donald Trump defended Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad featuring rival Amy Acton’s estranged mother, telling him to keep it up and thank God while stumping in Iowa for Senate candidate Ashley Hinson, who wrote the ad “needs to come down.”
Trump said the contents of the ad were fair game, despite Democrat Amy Acton maintaining she hasn’t spoken to her mother since 1978. Acton’s mother lost custody of her and her brother when Acton was 12 years old. Her stepfather was indicted by a grand jury on charges of sexually abusing Acton, but her mother stayed with him. The president, in defending the ad, ignored the accusations of abuse.
