KiwiRail's Rare Train to Rapahoe (ft. DXCs 5333 and 5391) ~ 17/09/2026 (HD)

The Rapahoe Branch (over on the South Island's West Coast) is one of numerous oddities on the New Zealand railway system. Trains first started running to Rapahoe (about 9 kilometres north of Greymouth) in 1923, and although the branch is still open, it only gets coal trains these days. And even then, the train to Rapahoe only runs when required; it's not like a regular service on-par with those into and out of Tauranga. On Thursday the 17th of September 2026, we were lucky to be able to chase that rare train to Rapahoe, with DXCs 5333 and 5391 doing the honours.
