Neutrinos are ghost particles: about 65 billion from the Sun pass through your fingernail every second. Here is how IceCube, a cubic kilometre of Antarctic ice, catches them, and why Francis Halzen won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics. Wolfgang Pauli predicted the neutrino in 1930 and said nobody could ever detect it. Twenty-six years later it was caught at a nuclear reactor, but the interesting neutrinos from space are far rarer. So physicists hung more than 5,000 light sensors in the ice at the South Pole, and the faint blue Cherenkov flashes they record are now pointing at a blazar and at our own galaxy.
