My son's wife cleaned her whole house on Saturday and asked me why it was dirty again by Wednesday. The answer was a plate on the arm of the sofa. In my mother's house the house was never cleaned. It was kept, by twelve rules that ran all day in small pieces. Here they are in the order of a day, and I tell you honestly which ones keep a house clean and which ones are just how we were raised. 📖 The Old Mexican Way, every old-ways habit for the whole house in one book: https://oldmexicanway.com The twelve rules: 1️⃣ The windows open every morning, ten minutes, two sides. One window is a puddle, two on opposite sides is a river (p175). Dry air is why the house stays clean. 2️⃣ La barrida. The broom every day, before the mop, never the mop instead (p197). 3️⃣ The trapo has a rank: white for the table, gray for the counters, dark for the floor, the bathroom's own. Nothing travels (p48, p53). 4️⃣ Nobody eats anywhere but the table. Crumbs stay in the one room that is swept daily. 5️⃣ The stove is wiped while it is still warm, every night. Warm grease is liquid, cold grease is wax. 6️⃣ The house closes at noon in the hot months, curtains against the sun (p185, p186). Honest: a rule for hot or dusty places; in a cold wet climate do the opposite. 7️⃣ The bathroom is left the way you found it, dried by the person who wet it. 8️⃣ The wash never waits. Out of the machine the minute it stops. The sour towel smell is bacteria from a load that sat. 9️⃣ The trash leaves the house every night, with the kitchen close. Can rinsed on Saturday. 🔟 The purse never on the floor, never on the bed. Folklore we keep anyway, and the bottom of a purse is the dirtiest thing that enters a house that is not a shoe. 1️⃣1️⃣ The plastic on the good chairs. Custom, not cleaning. The rule under it: the sala is for sitting, not eating, sleeping or laundry. A washable cover is the modern plastic. 1️⃣2️⃣ Saturday, cada quien su área. Everyone has a zone, the furniture moves, one hour (p604). The house is kept by six people, not cleaned by one. The honest word: nine keep a house clean, two are custom, one depends on your weather. None of them work because they are Mexican. They work because they are small and daily. Pick the five that fit your house. Chapters: 0:00 Why is it dirty again by Wednesday? 1:46 Rule 1. This channel is the old ways, from the women in my family to you. I was widowed at 49 after thirty-one years and I raised six children in my mother's house in Guadalajara. Tell me in the comments which of these your own mother had, in whatever country she kept her house, and tell me your county too. I read every one. #HouseRules #MexicanMom #OldWays
