25 Classic TV Stars Who Could Not Escape Their Most Famous Role

Twenty-five classic TV stars. One role each that made them famous, and sometimes made it hard to be anything else. From Jay North's fight with "the ghost of Dennis the Menace" to Nichelle Nichols' resignation letter and the civil rights leader who talked her out of it, this countdown looks at the actors who could not escape their most famous roles, and how each one answered. Some hated the part. Some were typecast for decades. Some tried to break out and found the door locked. Every entry is sourced, and we say plainly where the record is thin.
