Today I’m out doing street photography with the Sony ZV-1, a small 1-inch sensor camera that was originally made more for vlogging than photography.
I wanted to see if the Sony ZV-1 can actually work as a street photography camera, especially when compared to more expensive compact cameras like the Sony RX100 series. The RX100 VII is a brilliant camera, but it can still cost a lot of money. The ZV-1 is often much cheaper second hand, usually around £300 to £400, and for street photography it might be more than enough.
This is not a technical review or a pixel-peeping camera test. I’m more interested in how the camera feels in real use: carrying it around the city, reacting quickly, shooting with a small setup, and not worrying too much about gear.
I talk about using the Sony ZV-1 for street photography, the 1-inch sensor, the 24-70mm equivalent lens, battery life, using an external viewfinder, and why sometimes a small cheap camera can help you take more photos than a bigger or more expensive setup.
Gear matters, but not as much as going outside and making work.
