I Camped Above the Clouds! | Silent Hiking in the Lake District

Join me for a peaceful solo hiking adventure through one of the most beautiful areas of the Lake District National Park, with no unnecessary talking or distractions — just mountains, footsteps, changing weather and an unforgettable night wild camping above the clouds. 🥾 SILENT HIKING IN THE LAKE DISTRICT This journey takes me deep into the Western Fells of the Lake District, hiking through dramatic mountain scenery towards Haystacks, one of the most iconic Wainwrights. From rocky paths and mist-covered valleys to high mountain ridges disappearing into the cloud, this is the Lake District at its quietest and most atmospheric. As I continue higher through the fells towards High Raise, the conditions begin to change. Then something incredible happens. The mountains emerge above the cloud. ☁️ WILD CAMPING ABOVE THE CLOUDS With the valleys completely covered by mist, I’m treated to an incredible Lake District cloud inversion. Instead of looking down into the valleys below, I’m standing above a vast sea of cloud with the surrounding mountain summits appearing like islands through the mist. As the light begins to change, I find somewhere high in the mountains to pitch the tent for a peaceful solo wild camp above the clouds. Golden light spreads across the fells while the cloud remains trapped below. It’s one of those rare wild camping experiences that makes carrying everything into the mountains completely worthwhile. ⛰️ HAYSTACKS & THE WESTERN FELLS The route takes in Haystacks, one of Alfred Wainwright’s best-loved Lake District fells, before continuing through the surrounding Western Fells towards High Raise.
