Boring history for sleep: what daily life was really like in the Stone Age, at a hunter-gatherer camp on the shore of a quiet lake eleven thousand years ago. Come back to the end of the last Ice Age and spend one slow day with a small family, from the first grey light to the stars over the water.
Tonight's story follows Rowan, a woman of a small hunter-gatherer camp on the shore of a lake in northern England around 9000 BC, at the place archaeologists call Star Carr, with her partner Alder, his mother Old Birch, their daughter Wren, her nephew Otter and the family dog: embers at dawn, the lake and its timber platform, working flint and antler, gathering in the birch woods, a shared meal, scraping hides and sewing with bone needles, an evening around the fire, and the lake at night.
History to fall asleep to: a calm sleep story for adults, read slowly by the fire.
The pictures fade into a quiet hearth after about half an hour, and the last ten minutes are only the fire, so nothing on the screen will wake you.
What time is it where you are, and where are you listening from?
