Jacob High Voltage Laboratory, the largest university-operated high voltage facility in North America. In this episode, we sit down with Dr. David Wallace, Director of HVL, for a conversation about the lab's equipment, goals, research, and what it takes to safely study electricity at a scale worthy of a galaxy far, far away, from the 3000 kV impulse generator to the 1000 kV transformer. Founded in 1977, HVL is part of Mississippi State University's Bagley College of Engineering and has spent decades supporting high voltage research that keeps our power grid running safely and reliably.
