What does it really mean to say yes to God? Not just with your words, but with your life, your schedule, your habits, and your heart? This is one of the most important questions every follower of Christ has to wrestle with, and it is one that most of us face on a daily basis.
In Matthew 26, right after the Last Supper, the disciples made bold declarations of loyalty to Jesus. Peter insisted he would never fall away, even if everyone else did. Every disciple echoed that same commitment. They meant every word. But when pressure came, their good intentions were not enough to hold them. This is one of the most relatable moments in all of Scripture because most of us have been there. We have told God we are all in, only to find ourselves doing exactly what we said we would not do.
The gap between what we say and what we do reveals where our will has not yet been fully surrendered to God. Closing that gap is not about trying harder. It is about building a life of obedience that does not depend on how you feel. That starts with establishing spiritual non-negotiables, commitments like reading the Word, prayer, gathering with other believers, and serving in your calling, that are not up for debate no matter what.
When you show up in obedience even when your flesh is tired or resistant, God meets you there. The strength you need does not always come before you obey. It comes as you obey. That is not just an encouraging idea. It is a biblical pattern that has proven true in the lives of believers throughout history.
The contrast of Judas in this same passage is a powerful warning. He followed Jesus, knew His teachings, and was present at the table, yet he never truly surrendered. He sold out for something temporary. It is a reminder that proximity to Jesus is not the same as surrender to Jesus.
If you have been saying yes to God with your mouth but not yet with your actions, this is for you. Whether you are working through questions about Christian obedience, spiritual disciplines, surrendering your will to God, or simply trying to close the gap between your faith and your daily life, this message speaks directly to where so many believers find themselves.
Topics covered include surrendering your will to God, Christian obedience and faith, spiritual disciplines and non-negotiables, the story of Peter's denial in Matthew 26, overcoming the gap between intention and action, trusting God's strength over your own, and living a consistent life of faith.
Saying yes to God is not a one-time decision. It is a daily choice to surrender, show up, and trust that He will do what only He can do when you make yourself available to Him.
