Holyman House (390 Flinders St.), Melbourne VIC This was one of if not the best lift I saw on this trip to Melbourne. I walked into this building for a quick look and was very surprised to see this. The shaft doors are made completely of wood which is not something you see very often on lifts. It’s also got the fancy door sill that matches the one in Mitchell House on Lonsdale St. This lift is in amazing condition and has only received light mods over the years. This is the first time I have seen this COP fixture in a Johns & Waygood lift. I didn’t get a look at the call buttons upstairs but I assume they would be similar to the call fixtures used on the True Level in Adelaide. The alarm button appears to be a newer Johns & Waygood button but the phone button is Dewhurst. I think the motor is still original but the logic may not be. I think this lift has a VF drive. It’s still very clunky and the sounds it makes are epic. The C. Marshall plate is the second I’ve seen on a gated Johns & Waygood lift and the third in general. As mentioned in the video, there is one on the lift in the Athenaeum Theatre. Manufacturer: Johns & Waygood Year installed: 1939 Type: Traction with replaced? relay controller Capacity: 1020 kg, 15 persons Serves floors G, 1, 2 Fixtures: Original COP, ground floor call button replaced with Dewhurst Doors: Original wooden shaft doors and gate History: Light mods #elevator
