Land Tenure and Just Energy Transition

This lecture is about a case study focused on the energy transition, specifically in South Africa. Professor Simon Hull explores the interconnectedness of land, power and justice in this context. Renewable energy projects demand substantial land, and in Africa particularly sub-Saharan Africa, this often involves customary land governed by traditional authorities. Professor Hull further discusses the Bolobedu case study, illustrating the sometimes uneasy interaction between energy justice, land reform theory and human rights-based land governance.
