Can a Drum VST Replace my Acoustic Kit?
I've spent less than a week in the new studio and I've already taken the acoustic kit down. The weird shape of the ceilings and my general lack of experience recording drums (on the engineering side of things) meant that I was simply not going to be able to get a drum sound that I was actually satisfied with in the new space. So, I brought in my electronic drum kit. On it's own, my Roland TD-17 module does not have anywhere near the sound quality to replace my acoustic kit, even with it being improperly recording. However, drum VST's like Steven Slate Drums and EZDrummer 3 are able to mitigate this with incredibly nuanced sounds. They can record multitrack audio directly into your DAW, and can even be triggered by an electronic drum kit over MIDI. So can these VST's replace my acoustic drum kit in the new studio? I think so, but let me know what you think! Enjoy the video :)
