Can a leasing company transform its core business systems without a risky Big Bang implementation? In the presentation “Beyond the Big Bang: Transforming the Tools that Power Business Growth,” Arkadiusz Ziółkowski from European Leasing Fund and Magdalena Jaworska from Ailleron share the story of a large-scale business and technology transformation carried out in one of Poland’s leading leasing organizations. The session offers practical insights into how financial institutions can modernize key systems while minimizing operational risk. The speakers discuss the challenges of transforming an IT landscape burdened by legacy systems, growing customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and increasing business complexity. Their goal was to create a unified Customer 360° View, connecting financing, insurance, sales platforms, contract management, customer service, and back-office processes into a single ecosystem. Rather than replacing all legacy systems at once, EFL adopted a coexistence strategy, gradually building a new sales platform while maintaining existing solutions. This approach allowed the organization to reduce risk, accelerate delivery, and ensure business continuity throughout the transformation journey. The presentation highlights the foundations of success: transparent business goals, strong executive sponsorship, empowered teams, rapid decision-making, and a shared focus on delivering business value rather than simply managing project scope. Over the course of the transformation, the teams completed more than 10,000 man-days of joint work, delivered 50+ implementations, shortened delivery cycles from 2-3 months to just 1 month, and achieved a complete transformation with zero Big Bang deployments. Most importantly, business growth continued throughout the entire program. This session provides valuable lessons for banks, leasing companies, lenders, fintechs, and business leaders responsible for digital transformation, system modernization, and large-scale change management.
