Matt Sorum Looks Back on Guns N’ Roses and a Life in Rock & Roll | Snapshot

In this Matt Sorum interview, the Guns N’ Roses drummer looks back on his career in rock & roll while walking through the Morrison Hotel Gallery for this episode of Snapshot, stopping at the photos that bring back the people and moments that shaped it. Matt Sorum came to Hollywood in 1979 wanting to play in a band, and the career that followed ran through The Cult, Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, and Hollywood Vampires, plus time behind the board producing for Billy Gibbons. In this Snapshot episode, Matt Sorum talks about the phone call that brought Matt Sorum into Guns N’ Roses, why the Guns N’ Roses name still opens doors for Matt Sorum around the world, and what it was like to end up onstage with the artists Matt Sorum grew up watching. Matt Sorum also talks about music more broadly: why every musician has to love playing first, how seeing Ringo Starr on TV got Matt Sorum behind a drum kit, and what Alice Cooper, Geezer Butler, and Billy Gibbons taught Matt Sorum about getting through life on the road. In Matt Sorum’s words, the career has been “a never-ending bucket list.” Matt Sorum was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Guns N’ Roses in 2012. The stories in this Matt Sorum interview also cover fellow Inductees Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, and Ringo Starr.
