After leaving Brissac, I headed east towards Peyrolles-en-Provence, deliberately choosing a route that avoided the major cities and their busy ring roads. It wasn’t the most spectacular day’s riding. The morning was grey and overcast, but as the day wore on the temperature climbed once again and it became another unbearably hot and tiring day on the road. But the real story began when I arrived at my accommodation for the night… It was the evening of 13 July and virtually everything was closed. No restaurant. No easy way of finding an evening meal. After a long, hot day on the scooter, this was not quite the welcome I had been hoping for!
